Francis Nkrumah (PhD)

I am a distinguished climate scientist, lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and an African contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). With a PhD in Physics, I specialize in regional climate modelling, mesoscale convective systems, and West African Monsoon dynamics under climate change.

As a dedicated educator and mentor, I have experience in teaching meteorological and physics courses, contributing to shaping the next generation of scientists. I have expertise and community engagement, combined with his role in IPCC AR6, underscore his commitment to advancing climate science and addressing pressing global environmental challenges.

Research

My research interests encompass regional climate modelling, mesoscale convective systems, and the dynamics of the West African Monsoon under climate change. I focus on extreme weather events such as droughts and high-intensity precipitation, as well as tropical meteorology and atmospheric physics. Additionally, I am interested in innovative approaches to addressing climate change, including solar radiation modification and carbon dioxide removal, with a particular emphasis on their regional implications in West Africa.
